Lesson 1.1: Starting Out

   

 

 

Let’s take a quick look at the interface. If you have used other Office 2003 programs, this will look familiar to you:

Title Bar

 

This bar across the top always appears when Access is open. You are likely familiar with the three buttons on the right: Minimize, Maximize/Restore, and Close (from left to right).

Menu Bar

 

The Menu bar provides functionality to the features of Access, as well as allowing you to ask a question about a particular topic should you get stuck.

Toolbars

 

Toolbars provide quick functionality to many different features of Access. There are many different toolbars in Access; we will explore them as we come across them.

Task Pane

The Task Pane appears on the right side of the Access window:

 

 

The default Task Pane displays the ‘Getting Started’ page. This page lets you stay up to date about Access, search for a help topic, open a recently opened file, or make a new database file.

 

If you move your mouse so it is hovering over the ‘Getting Started’ title and then click the little pull-down arrow () you can select other pages of the Task Pane:
