Lesson 2.4: Formatting Text

   

 

 

In this exercise you will experiment with the Zoom Toolbar and use the Format Painter on the sample database.

 

1.                   

Open Microsoft Access 2003.

 

 

2.                   

Click Help à Sample Databases à Northwind Sample Database.

Click OK to close the splash screen.

 

 

3.                   

Click the Display Database Window button on the Main Switchboard.

 

 

4.                   

Click the Reports object in the Database window.

Double-click the Invoice report to preview it.

 

 

 

5.                   

Maximize the Invoice report window by clicking the Maximize button. In the Zoom Toolbar, click the pull-down arrow in the Zoom Level tool and select 150%.

 

 

 

6.                   

Click the rightmost page button (multiple pages), and then move your mouse over two pages and down two pages to select a 2x2 grid.

 

 

 

7.                   

Click the small x button in the upper right-hand of your screen to close the maximized report.

 

 

Click the small restore button (directly to the left of the small x button) to reduce the size of the Database window back to its original size.

 

 

8.                   

In the Database window, click the Forms object and then double-click the Customers form to open it.

 

 

 

9.                   

Click the View button () in the Form View toolbar to open the form in Design view.

 

 

10.               

Click on the Customer ID field label once to select it. Change the font to Franklin Gothic Heavy, the font size to 10 point, remove the bold effect that was placed on the label, and change the font colour to black.

 

You will need to make the field label a bit wider; move your mouse over this black box:

 

 

until it becomes a double-headed arrow ().Click and drag the text field wide enough to show the entire label.

Double-click the Format Painter tool () and then click each field label to change the formatting to the new style. You will also need to resize some of the field labels after applying the new format to see the entire label.
