SECTION 1
Lesson 1.1: Outlining and Grouping your Data

Sometimes, a worksheet can become so large, and contain so much data, that it becomes unwieldy. Totals and subtotals that summarize the data are lost in screen after screen of numbers. Thankfully, Excel 2003 has an Excellent feature to help with this kind of problem.

Excel’s grouping and outlining features will allow you to collapse a large worksheet to show or print summary data, and to expand the same worksheet to show or modify the details. Outlining lets you manage the level of detail at which your worksheet will be presented.

In this lesson, you will learn how to group your data using the automatic outlining feature and, how to expand or collapse the levels of your outlined worksheet to present your data in the most suitable way. You will also learn how to group data manually, and how to create subtotals to help summarize your data clearly and succinctly.
