SECTION 2
Lesson 2.2 Excel Workbooks as Web Pages

In this exercise, you will save a worksheet as a non interactive web page.

1.

To begin, start Excel 2003 and open the file named Practice 7 in your Excel 2003 Practice folder.  File->Open

This is a worksheet containing student marks. The goal here is to create a web page from this worksheet so students can check there marks over the Internet. Realistically, a more anonymous identifier (like a student number) would be used to distinguish between students instead of a name.

The first step is to choose File->Save As Web Page to invoke the save as dialogue box.

2.

In the dialogue box, type the filename marks in the file name field, select Web Page (*.htm; *.html) as the file type in the Save as type field, and use the Save in drop list to select a folder ( Excel 2003 Practice ) to save the file in. Make sure you select the Selection: Sheet radio button.

Since this will be a non-interactive web page, make sure the Add interactivity check box is cleared. When you are ready, click the Publish button to display the Publish as Web Page box.

3.

Place a checkmark in the checkbox labelled Open Published Web Page in browser near the bottom of the box, and then click the Publish button to create the web page.

4.

You should now see the web page open in an Internet Explorer browser window.

Save your work and Exit Excel.
