Knowing how to save and retrieve your work is a crucial part of using any program. It might be necessary to work on the same workbook for a period of days or even weeks or months. In business, workbooks might be kept on file for a number of years. You may need to share files with others, or send them to a distant colleague. In short, file management is an essential part of working with Excel.

 

In this lesson you will learn the basics of how to work with and manage your Excel files. You will learn how to create new workbooks, how to open existing workbooks, and how to save and close workbooks. You will also learn about some of the file types commonly associated with Excel.
