SECTION 1
Lesson 1.1: Using Formulas in Excel

As you probably already know, Excel 2003 is a great tool for organizing and presenting your data. In fact, Excel 2003 can do much more than neatly arrange and total rows and columns of information. The real power of Excel lies in the number and variety of functions and formulas you can apply to your data.

When you enter or change your data, your Excel worksheets are automatically recalculated based on the mathematical formulas and functions that connect your information. Needless to say, a good understanding of how to build and use formulas and functions will help you improve the functionality and efficiency of your worksheets.

In this lesson you will learn about absolute and relative cell references, basic mathematical operations, and using formulas that involve multiple cell references. You will also become familiar with the formula auditing toolbar, and you will practice fixing formula errors. Finally, you will learn how to display and print formulas in Excel.
