SECTION 3
Lesson 3.1: Creating Macros in Excel

The Microsoft Office suite of software has something called VBA packaged with it. VBA stands for Visual Basic for Applications. Visual basic is a high level programming language that can be used to design applications on Microsoft Windows platforms. VBA is a part of visual basic that can be used to enhance or add functionality to Microsoft Office applications like Excel or Word.

Don’t let all this discussion about computer programming intimidate you. Excel 2003 lets you use VBA without having to get into the nuts and bolts of programming, (although you can if you want to). Excel macros provide you with a straightforward way to take advantage of VBA on a basic level.

In this lesson you will learn what a macro is, and how to create and use one. You will learn how to assign a short cut key to a macro, and how to give your macro a button that you can add to an Excel toolbar.
