SECTION 4
Lesson 4.1 Using Excel in Word

If you want to include a graphical representation of your data, you can also link an Excel chart to a Word document. To do this, open both Word and Excel. Select the chart from your Excel worksheet and choose Edit->Copy from the Excel menu bar.

Activate Word, and put you curser in the appropriate position for your chart. Next, choose Edit->Paste Special from the Word menu bar. This will display the paste special dialogue box.

Click the Paste link radio button and then click OK to create a link with the Excel chart object.

Note that if you choose the Paste radio button rather than the Paste Link button, the chart will not be updated when changes are made to the original worksheet.

This image shows a chart object that is linked to an Excel worksheet. Just as before, changes made to the source Excel file, will be updated in the word document, and the chart can be modified in an Excel environment, using the Excel chart tools.
