SECTION 3
Lesson 3.4: Outlook and Windows

Once upon a time, Microsoft offered a free service called Free/Busy to Outlook users. It allowed you to publish your basic calendar information (just blocks of free or busy time) to a Web site where other members (whom you gave permission to) could access it. This was a great tool for groups like non-profit organizations, community groups, and small businesses, who had no other way to share calendar data.

Unfortunately, Microsoft shut down the Free/Busy Web site in October 2004. If you’re using Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 with Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2, the Web site options have been removed entirely. The only option you will have is to publish to an FTP server. You can access these options by clicking the Tools menu, clicking Options, clicking the Calendar Options button, and then clicking Free/Busy Options:

In the top part of this window, you can enter how many months of data you want to publish. You can also specify how often you want Outlook to update the information on the server. In the bottom portion of the window, you can check the Publish at my location box and enter your server name.
