As
Business Contact Manager stores its data separate from Outlook, it’s
important to back up your database regularly.
Luckily, backing up your database is really easy! Just follow these
steps: A.
Click the Business Tools menu. B.
Click Manage Database. Let’s
interrupt those steps for a moment to look at the Manage Database
screen:
On
this tab, you can see basic information about your database, including
its name, the computer it’s stored on, the date and time it was created,
the owner of the database, and the database’s size.
To
back up your database, just click the first button in the Manage
Database window. Business Contact Manager will prompt you for a bit more
information before the backup is complete. You can see in the figure on
the right that you will need to specify a location using the browse
button. You can also enter a password (which is optional). Once the
location is entered, click OK to complete the backup! If
you need to restore your database to an earlier time, you can also do
that using the Manage Database window. Just click the Restore Database
button. Then, all you have to do is browse to the file, enter a password
(if there is one) and click OK to restore your database. (Note the
warning at the top of the box; restoring your database will replace the
current Business Contact Manager database with this one, so be careful!)
Here’s what the Restore window looks like:
The
last button in the Manage Database window is Check for Errors. You
should click this button periodically to defragment your database and to
check it for errors. This will make sure your database stays
corruption-free. The
second tab in the Manage Database window summarizes what other databases
are set up on this computer:
This
will give you basic information (such as database name, owner, sharing
status, size, and date created) in a table format. You can also select
any database and click Delete Database to remove it. To
close out of the Manage Database window, just click OK!
