SECTION 3
Lesson 3.1: Outlook's Calendar

There are a number of ways you can look at your calendar. We already talked about one component, the Date Navigator. (This is the small calendar in the Navigation Pane that shows this month and next month. It also shows dates that have appointments in bold.)

Another component of how you view your calendar is the buttons on the standard toolbar. Remember the view buttons on the standard toolbar? Here they are again:

Jumps to today in the calendar

Changes the view to one day.

Changes the view to 5 days (the work week that is set up).

Changes the view to one week.

Changes the view to one month.

So, when you click on the button labelled week, your calendar view changes to show the whole week:

You’ll also see how the Week icon looks different from the others on the Standard toolbar; this is so that you know what view you’re using.

There are tons of other ways you can view your calendar, but these are the basic ones that you’ll use the most often.

One last component of calendar views is the taskpad. We haven’t really talked about tasks yet, but keep this in mind because it can be useful. If you click on the Views menu and click on Taskpad, your screen will change to look like this:

See how the Date Navigator is now on the right? Below it, you can see your TaskPad. This is a list of tasks you have in Outlook; it acts the same as the Tasks folder. We haven’t talked about tasks yet, so don’t worry about this view right now. Just keep it in mind as a handy way to see your calendar and your to-do list at the same time.
