SECTION 3
Lesson 3.1: E-Mail Accounts Overview

Electronic mail, better known as e-mail, has become the way everyone communicates. You can send a message or a file to someone halfway across the world in seconds, and have an answer just as quickly. This is a huge improvement from postal mail where replies could take weeks or even months. The result is that e-mail has made the world much smaller.

E-mail support is one of the main functions of Microsoft Outlook 2003. Not much has changed from the previous version; if you’ve used Outlook 2002 the e-mail accounts wizard and the types of accounts supported may look familiar. If you’ve been using older versions of Outlook, such as 97, 98, or 2000, you’ll want to pay close attention. New account types have been added, and the wizard has been completely redrawn to be more intuitive and to be easier to use.
