When
you’re in an IMAP folder, you’ll notice that some of your menu options
are different. Here’s an overview of the biggest changes: -
Edit menu:
o
Undelete: When you delete a mail message from an IMAP folder, you’ll see that
Outlook will cross it out rather than deleting it. (This marks the
message for deletion the next time your mailbox syncs with the server.)
The undelete option removes that mark so the message won’t be deleted.
o
Purge Deleted Messages: Forces Outlook to delete all messages marked for
deletion. -
Tools menu:
o
IMAP Folders: Lets you search for a particular IMAP folder.
Here’s an example of a message marked for deletion and the undelete
option available from the right-click menu:
Outlook will also add your IMAP inbox to your favourite folders list;
you can see this in the sample above (in the top left hand corner). Even
if you’re using IMAP, you can still use Microsoft Word as your e-mail
editor, or choose from any of the three mail formats.) However, your
special folders (like calendar, contacts, notes, and tasks) will only be
accessible from your personal folders, as IMAP typically only supports
e-mail features.
