SECTION 4
Lesson 4.2: Advanced Task Options

Just like calendar options, you can set tasks to recur at a certain interval. You can get to these recurrence options the same way as with the calendar: open a new or existing task, and click the recurrence button on the standard toolbar.

The recurrence dialog box for tasks looks a bit different than the options for calendar:

Here’s an overview of the options in this window. You can only pick one of the many recurrence options.

-       Recurrence pattern:

o   Daily:

§  Have the task recur every number of days or every weekday.

§  You can also have a copy of this task created a certain number of days after the current task is completed.

o   Weekly:

§  Set the task to recur every number of weeks on a certain day of the week.

§  Or, we can have a copy of this task created a certain number of weeks after the current task is completed.

o   Monthly:

§  Have the task recur on a certain date every number of months. (For example, the 19th day of every second month.)

§  Set the task to recur on a certain day on a certain week of a certain month, such as the second Friday of every second month.

§  Outlook can also re-create a copy of this task a certain number of months after the current task is completed.

o   Yearly:

§  Set a certain date every year for this task to recur (such as July 4th).

§  Have this task recur on a certain day every year (such as the first Sunday in April).

§  Tell Outlook to re-create a copy of this task a certain number of years after the current task is completed.

-       Range of recurrence:

o   Set the date for this recurrence to start.

o   Tell Outlook when you want this series of tasks to end. You can choose no end date, a specific date, or after a specific amount of recurrences.

Click OK to save your changes, or click Cancel to discard your changes. Then, click Save and Close to save your recurrence. Like calendar appointments, tasks also have a recurring icon in the main task view. You can see this icon circled in blue below:

You can always remove a task recurrence by opening the task, clicking the Recurrence button, and clicking Remove Recurrence. Then click OK and click Save and Close to save your changes.
