Lesson 2.2: Using the Work Breakdown Structure Code

   

 

 

Let’s take a look at our sample project.

 

 

Here, you can see that we have several levels of tasks. Project has given each of our tasks a code (called the Work Breakdown Structure code) identifying its place in an outline, like this:

 

1.      Have rough draft completed

1.1.   Create style guide for executives

1.2.   Meet with CEO

1.2.1.      Schedule Meetings

1.2.2.      Initial Meeting

1.2.3.      Follow-Up Meeting

1.3.   Have CEO Prepare Letter

1.4.   Create financial section

1.4.1.      Have auditor prepare balance sheet

1.4.2.      Ask auditor to create summary and his notes

 

This creates a very orderly planning process, and will help you identify critical points in your project.
