Open Microsoft Project

Open 2-2 Sample
from the Sample Files folder.

By default, we’re in
Gantt Chart view.
Right-click the
Task Name
column on the task entry sheet and click
Insert Column.

In the Column Definition
dialog, choose
WBS for the
Field Name.
Leave all other settings
as the default and click
OK.

Now that we can see the
WBS code, let’s edit it.
Click the
Project
menu, choose
WBS,
and click
Define Code.

For the first sequence,
choose Numbers
(Ordered).

For the
separator,
choose
anything you like.

For the second level,
choose
Uppercase Letters with
any separator.

For the third level,
choose
Lowercase Letters with
any separator.
Click
OK.

Notice how the WBS
column has changed.

Move Task 16 to below Task 18.

Note how the WBS codes
were not changed. To change the codes, click the
Project
menu, click
WBS, and click
Renumber.

to any prompts you may receive.
