SECTION 4
Lesson 4.2: Using Resource Pools

A resource pool is a project file that acts as a master list of resources. You can link multiple projects to this pool, which offers the following advantages:

  • Ensures consistency across projects

  • Saves you from typing in the same information over and over again

  • Prevents resource conflicts

  • Allows you to see scheduling for all resources in one place

Let’s say that in our annual report project, there’s a task that requires you to devote 100% of your time to it on May 1st and 2nd. Let’s say that you’re also planning the annual general meeting and you’ve inadvertently scheduled yourself to complete tasks for that project on the same two days. If you’ve set up the resources separately, you probably won’t notice it until the day has come, and then you’ll be behind on one of the projects. If you’ve used a resource pool, however, you will easily be able to identify conflicts and over-allocations.
