In any task view, you can select a task and use the Assign Resources command (using the Tools – Assign Resources menu command, the Alt + F10 shortcut, or the  button on the standard toolbar) to assign a resource. Any of those three commands will open this dialog:

You can select one or more resources, and enter the units they will contribute. Then, click Assign to complete the operation.
