Lesson 1.1: Working With Lines and Shapes

   

 

 Practice Exercise

 

In the following lesson we will create a flowchart incorporating lines, arrows, and shapes. The second half of the lesson will be modifying the lines and shapes using the adjustment handle, applying line and fill colour, and apply 3-D style to a AutoShape.

 

Begin by Opening Lesson 1.1

 

 

1.

First let’s drag out the AutoShapes toolbar.

 

Select the AutoShapes icon, located on the Objects toolbar.

You will notice the top of the menu is highlighted, select this area and drag away from the AutoShape icon.

  

 


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Note: Floating menus can be dropped in the toolbar area, in order to remain constant.

Select Flowchart on the AutoShapes toolbar.

Select Flowchart: Preparation as shown below.

 

 

 

 

5.

Position AutoShape at the top middle section of the page. Click and drag to form shape.

Release Cursor.

Insert 2 Flowchart: Terminator, as shown below.

 

 

 

 

8.

Insert 3 Flowchart: Alternative Process, as shown below.

Insert Flowchart: Decision, as shown below.

 

 

 

 

10.

Now that all of the shapes are positioned, we will insert connector lines.

 

Go to the Connector icon located on the AutoShapes toolbar.

Select Straight Arrow Connector.

Connect AutoShape 1 to AutoShape 2. AutoShape 1 will display its connector points. Select one and drag to a connector point on AutoShape 2.

 

 

 

13.

Release cursor.

 

 

 

 

14.

Insert a straight arrow connector between AutoShape 4 and 5.

 

 

 

15.

Select Elbow Arrow Connector.

 

 

 

 

16.

Connect AutoShape 3 to AutoShape 7.

 

 

 

17.

Select the top adjustment handle on the elbow arrow connector line and drag left.

 

 

 

 

18.

For the last few steps we will apply fill colour and line colour to AutoShape 1 and fill effects and 3-D style to AutoShape 7.

 

Select AutoShape 1, select Fill Colour  on the Formatting toolbar, select any colour.

 

 

 

19.

Select Line colour , select any colour.

 

 

 

20.

Select AutoShape 7, go to Fill Colour, and select Fill Effects.

 

Select One Colour.

 

Choose Colour, from Colour 1 palette.

 

Slide bar from Dark to Light.

 

Select Horizontal Variant.

Select OK.

 

 

22.

With AutoShape 7 still selected, go to 3-D style and select 3-D style 2.

Click outside the publication.
