When linking objects from an entire file you are essentially inserting a picture of the entire document. This process is done a little differently then linking partial files. From the Insert menu select Object. The Insert Object dialog box will open for you to locate the file, as shown below.

 

 

Once you choose the file and click OK, it will be inserted into your publication.
