You can only work in one Window at a time. However, you can have several programs running in different Windows. The taskbar manages the open windows by displaying the open programs as a button and grouping similar programs together. 

 Switching between windows is as simple as selecting from the Taskbar which window you want to be working in. The window you are currently working in is referred to as the Active Window.
