Lesson 2.1: Menus And Toolbars

   

 

 

 

Most windows that you see in Windows XP will have a Menu Bar. These are the helpful menus at the top of a window with all of the necessary options. Let’s open Windows Explorer and get into the details of these menus.

 

 

            File

             

            Create Shortcut

            Delete

            Properties

            Close current active window.

            You will also find a sub-menu with options pertaining to the currently selected file.

            Edit

             

            Undo

            Cut

            Copy

            Paste

            Paste shortcut

            View

             

            Toolbars: This will open a sub-menu listing menus and toolbars that you can enable or disable, such as the Address Bar and the Standard Buttons.

            Status Bar (click to hide, click again to show)

            Explorer Bar: This will also open a sub-menu listing task panes you can enable or disable, such as Search, Favourites, and Folders.

            The second section of the View menu lists ways your files can be displayed: thumbnails, tiles, icons, list, or details.

            Arrange Icons By: Will open a sub-menu offering ways to sort your icons.

            Choose Details: Allows you to add or remove details for the explorer window.

            Go To: Navigate through your computer.

            Refresh: will refresh the current page.

 

            Favourites

             

            Add to Favourites

            Organize Favourites

 

            Tools

             

            Map Network Drive: Allows you to map a drive letter to a network computer or folder. This drive letter will show in My Computer/Windows Explorer.

            Disconnect Network Drive: Disconnects the desired mapped network drive.

            Synchronize: Synchronizes your offline files.

            Folder Options: Opens a dialog with many customization options. We will cover this dialog in detail later on.

            Help

             

            Help and Support Centre: Opens the Help and Support Centre
