This icon will open the
Accessibility Options window which provides you with many options for
vision-impaired, hearing-impaired, or mobility-impaired users. The
available tabs are: Keyboard, Sound, Display, Mouse, and General.
The Keyboard tab provides
you with checkbox options and settings buttons for StickyKeys,
FilterKeys, and Toggle Keys. An additional checkbox option is available
for: Show extra keyboard help in programs.
|
StickyKeys |
Improves the wait time on your keyboard in
between keyboard shortcut functions. This allows you to have the
modifier key stay active until you press the next desired key.
For example, let’s say you wanted to use the shortcut keys Ctrl
+ F4. After the Ctrl key is pushed, it remains active until the
F4 key is pushed (compared to having to hold the Ctrl key down).
A Settings button is also available with more options. |
|
Filter Keys |
This function will tell Windows to ignore
brief or repeated keystrokes, or slow the repeat rate down. A
Settings button is also available with more options. |
|
Toggle Keys |
This function allows your computer to make
a tone when you push the CAPS LOCK, NUM LOCK, and SCROLL LOCK. A
Settings button is also available with more options. |
Now, let’s look at the other tabs.
|
Sound Tab |
Provides options for Sound Sentry (which
allows Windows to generate visual warnings when the computer
makes a sound) and Show Sounds (which allows your programs to
display captions for the speech and sounds they make). |
|
Display tab |
Provides two sections for accessibility
display adjustments. The two sections are: High Contrast and
Cursor Options. |
|
Mouse tab |
Provides a checkbox option for Use
MouseKeys and a Settings button. The Settings button allows
adjustments for MouseKeys keyboard shortcut, pointer speed, use
MouseKeys when NumLock is on or off and Show MouseKey status on
screen. |
|
General tab |
This tab provides several general options:
Automatic reset (which allows you to adjust the time limit for
idle accessibility features), Notification, SerialKey devices,
and Administrative options. |
