Lesson 3.2: Appearance And Themes

   

 

 

Your Folder Options is where you can customize how your folders function and how their content is displayed.

 

 

The Folder Options has four tabs: General, View, File Types, and Offline Files. The General tab has several sections: Tasks, Browse folders, Click Items as Follows, and a Restore Defaults button.

 

Tasks

 Allows you to set your Windows tasks view. Available options are to Show Common Tasks in Folders (which is the default Windows XP layout, with the preview pane and other helpful windows) or Use Windows Classic Folders which is the Windows 2000 explorer style window.

Browse folders

Available options are to Open each folder in the same window or Open each folder in its own window.

Click items as Follows

Available options are Single-click to open an item (point to select) (with optional underline options) or Double-click to open an item (single click to select).

Restore Defaults

 Will restore all settings to default.

 

The View tab has two sections, Folder views and Advanced settings, and a Restore Defaults button.

 

Folder views

Allows you to apply your current folder view to all folders. A Reset All Folders button is also available to reset any changes.

Advanced settings

A checkbox/radio button selection of advanced options. Note: To see an explanation of each box simply click on the question mark box  and then click the desired option box. (This feature also applies to other windows.)

 

The File Types tab associates file types with various programs. Examples of a file type would be .bmp (bitmap picture file), .exe (executable file), or .PDF (Adobe Acrobat file).

 

This tab has two sections: Registered File Types and Details.

 

Registered file types

Lists all known file types on your computer. A New button is also available if you wish to create your own.

Details

Shows the details for the highlighted file type above. Also has Change and Advanced buttons for more options.

 

Last, but not least, the Offline Files tab is used for offline file settings. Its options are:

 

Enable Offline Files

Enables this feature

Synchronize all offline files when logging on

Will synchronize all offline files when logging on to your desktop.

Synchronize all offline files before logging off

Will synchronize all offline files before logging off.

Display reminder every 60 minutes

Will display a reminder for offline file synchronization at the set time.

Create an Offline Files shortcut on the desktop

Creates a shortcut on your desktop to the Offline Files location.

Encrypt offline files to secure data

Will encrypt your offline files. (Requires a NTFS file system.)

Amount of disk space to use for temporary offline files

Specifies the amount of disk space can be used.

Delete Files

Will delete the offline files.

View Files

Allows you to view the offline files.
