SECTION 2
Lesson 2.2: Managing Web Pages

We talked earlier about how HTML is actually a secret code. Word saves you from needing to know that code; it lets you type, format, and insert stuff as normal and then converts it for you.

If you know the secret code, though, you may find it helpful to edit it at times. Luckily, Word lets you do just that!

To view HTML code, you must have a Web page (saved as some form of HTML) open and you must be in Web layout. Then, you can click the View menu and click HTML Source. (If you haven’t saved your page or you’re not in Web layout view, this command will not appear.)

Word will then open your document in the Microsoft Script Editor:

Now you can see all the code that lurks behind your Web page. You can also edit the coloured code in the main part of the window. (You should not edit the code if you aren’t familiar with HTML!)

Once you’re done editing the code, close Microsoft Script Editor. You will be prompted to save your changes and then returned to the document you were editing.
