Lesson 3.1: Creating an Outline

   

 

 

To make viewing your document easier, you can expand and collapse various headings. This will show or hide the text underneath those headings. To do so, either double-click the plus or minus sign next to the heading, or select the text and use the Expand or Collapse buttons () on the Outlining toolbar.

 

 

If an item is collapsed, it will have a grey wavy line under it; a collapsed heading is circled in the sample above.

 

Another way to condense the view of your outline is by using the Show First Line Only button () on the Outlining toolbar. When toggled, this option will show only the first line of all body text; an ellipsis (…) will be added to the end of the sentence to show that it is truncated.

 

 

You can always click the Show First Line Only button again to show the entire paragraph.
