Lesson 4.2: Information Rights Management

   

 

 

1.

Open Microsoft Office Word 2003.

 

 

2.

Open Memo.doc from the Exercise Files folder.

 

 

3.

Click the Permissions button () on the standard toolbar.

Download and install Information Rights Management.

 

 

 

5.

Click the permissions button again.

Walk through the wizard to get a temporary certificate.

 

 

 

6.

Click the File menu, choose Permissions, and click Do Not Distribute.

 

 

 

7.

Check Restrict permissions to this document.

In either the Read or Change dialog box, type in a classmate’s e-mail address. (If your class doesn’t have e-mail addresses, use your own or type in a fake address.)

 

 

 

8.

Click the More Options button.

Set an expiry date for your document.

As well, ensure that Users can request additional permissions from is checked and that your e-mail address is typed in, with a mailto: code in front of it.

Then, check the box Allow users with earlier versions of Office to read…

Click OK.

 

 

9.

If your classmates have e-mail accounts set up, send the document to the person you granted permission to and a few you didn’t.

If your class doesn’t have working e-mail addresses, you’re finished this exercise!
