Before you start using speech recognition, you must first configure it. To do this, we’ll click the Tools menu and click Speech. Here’s the dialog we’ll see when we perform that command:

Once you’ve adjusted your microphone, click the Next button. This will launch the Microphone Wizard:

This welcome screen reminds you once again to make sure your microphone and speakers are properly adjusted before you continue the wizard.

Once you click Next, you’ll be prompted to speak so that Word can adjust your microphone volume level.

Once the volume level is tuned, click Next. The next dialog will ask you to speak a test sentence:

Once you click Finish, your microphone configuration will be complete and you will be returned to Word.
