Once your microphone has been configured, we’ll need to train it so that it can recognize the words you speak. To do this, click the Tools button on the language bar (which will automatically open when you click the Tools menu and click Speech) and click Training.
Once you click Training, the Training Wizard will open:
Make sure you read the screen carefully, as it provides important information. - One training session is required before you use speech recognition. - Although Word will learn to recognize different words as you use speech recognition, it will learn faster through additional training sessions. - A quiet environment is necessary for speech recognition to work.
Once you click Next, you’ll be given some more important information about using speech recognition and using the training wizard.
You will need to speak the sentences in the white pane aloud. Word will highlight each word as it recognizes it; if you notice that Word has stopped highlighting words, just start speaking from the first non-highlighted word. As well, if you mispronounce a word but Word doesn’t pick up on it, don’t worry.
If you need to pause training, just click the Pause button. If you can’t pronounce a word, or the word isn’t being recognize, click the Skip Word button.
As you finish each screen, Word will automatically move to the next training screen.
Pay attention to what you’re reading as important information about the history, usage, and limitations of speech recognition will be displayed!
Once you’ve
completed all the screens your speech profile will be updated.
Once this is complete, you’ll have the opportunity to do more training. You can also click Finish to return to Word.
