Lesson 1.4: Customizing Toolbars and Menus

   

 

 

1.

Open Microsoft Office Word 2003.

 

 

2.

Click the View menu, click Toolbars, and click Picture.

 

 

3.

Drag and drop the picture toolbar so it is floating in the middle of your screen.

Click the Tools menu and click Customize.

Click the Commands tab.

In Categories, scroll to the Insert menu and click to select it.

In the Commands list, find ClipArt. Drag and drop it anywhere on the Picture toolbar.

In the Customize window, click the Toolbars tab. Check the Formatting and Extended Formatting toolbars.

Click Close.

 

 

6.

Right-click on a blank space next to a toolbar and click Customize.

Click the Commands tab.

Under Categories, scroll to the last item (New Menu.) Take the New Menu command and drag and drop it onto the menu bar between Window and Help.

 

 

8.

Click the Rearrange Commands button.

Ensure the dot is next to Menu Bar, the first choice.

Pick New Menu from the drop-down menu.

 

 

9.

Click the Add button.

In the Categories list, click File. In the Commands list, click Save Version.

Click OK.

 

 

10.

Repeat the process in Step 9 with each of these commands; their category is listed first to help you find them.

-          File: Versions

-          Edit: Previous Comment, Next Comment

-          View: Comments, Markup

-          Insert: New Comment, Comment, Delete Comment, Edit Comment

-          Tools: Compare and Merge Documents

-          Window and Help: Compare Side by Side With

 

 

11.

Click the Close button in the Rearrange Commands dialog box.

 

 

12.

Right-click on New Menu in the menu bar.

Click Name and type My Menu.

 

 

13.

Click the Close button in the Customize dialog box.

 

 

14.

Click My Menu at the top of your screen and see your commands!
