SECTION 2
Lesson 2.1: Working With Templates

Other than the visible elements (like pictures, fonts, and formatting) that a template contains, templates can also contain hidden elements like styles, macros, AutoText, toolbars, and keyboard shortcuts. If you have those elements in a template, you can bring them into your current document or template without affecting its contents. (We’ll talk about how to insert those items into a template in the advanced levels.)

To attach a template to your document, follow these steps.

  1. Click the Tools menu and click Templates and Add-ins.

  1. Click the Attach button.

  1. Browse to the file you want to attach.

  1. Click to select it and click Open.

  1. Click OK to close out of the Templates and Add-ins box.

You won’t see changes to your document, but you may have additional (custom) toolbars available, see extra AutoText entries, have new styles, and have more macros and keyboard shortcuts. All of these depend on what the attached template contains.
