SECTION 2
Lesson 2.2: Using Bullets and Numbering

You can create a bulleted or numbered list in one of three ways. In general, it’s like applying any other types of formatting. Here are the methods you can use:

  1. Begin a line with a number or a dash and press enter. (There are no keyboard shortcuts for other bullet icons.) Word will automatically start a list.
  2. Create your list and apply bullets and numbers.
  3. Turn bullets or numbers on and then create your list.

Just exactly how do you turn bullets and numbers on or apply them? You can click the Bullets icon () to apply the bullets scheme that was last used, or the numbering icon () to apply the numbering scheme that was last used.

To see the full Bullets and Numbering dialog, you can either:

-          Right-click in your document

-          Or, click the Format menu and click Bullets and Numbering.

Either action will bring up this dialog box:

Your current bullet or numbering scheme will have a box around it. Just click to select the style type you want, and click OK to apply it.

Let’s look at our numbering and outline numbering choices:

You can see that there are lots of ways to create an ordered list. You can choose any of these methods and click OK to apply them.
