Lesson 2.3: Using Headers and Footers

   

 

 

Let’s take a look at the header and footer toolbar. We didn’t cover it in the first section when we looked at all the other toolbars because it’s a special toolbar. You can’t open it using any of the standard toolbar commands; the only way to open it is to open the header/footer view.

 

We haven’t covered some elements of this toolbar yet (like AutoText), so for now, just focus on the general idea of each command rather than its specific actions. Let’s take a closer look at the Header and Footer toolbar:

 

 

Now, let’s look at each of its options.

 

Click this button to see a list of dynamic (automatically updating) fields you can insert into your header or footer.

Inserts the page number field.

Inserts the number of pages field.

Opens the Page Number formatting dialog box.

Inserts a date field, which updates to the current date.

Inserts a time field, which updates to the current time.

Opens the Page Setup dialog box.

Shows or hides document text.

Links or unlinks the header or footer from the previous section.

Click this button to switch from the header to the footer.

Goes to the previous header or footer.

Goes to the next header or footer.

Closes header and footer view.

 

Although you can’t modify the buttons on this toolbar, you can add buttons (and move the toolbar.
