If you
have a lot of styles, or if you use styles frequently, you may want to
display your styles as a task pane instead of a list. You can enable
this task pane by clicking the two A’s ( ) next to
the style list on the formatting toolbar. It’s circled in blue in the
sample below:

Let’s
take a look at the different parts of this pane.
|
1: Task Pane |
Like a typical task
pane, you can click the down arrow (▼) in the title bar to
change the task pane being displayed. You can also use the X
to close the task pane. |
|
2: Style Preview |
This box will show
you how the selected style will look. |
|
3: Select All |
Click this button to
select all instances of this style. |
|
4: New Style |
Click this button to
create a new style. (We’ll cover this in detail in a
moment.) |
|
5: Style List |
This is the list of
styles. You can select existing text and click a style to
apply it; or you can click a style to turn it on, type your
text, and then click the style again to turn it off. |
|
6: Show Menu |
You can choose to
display available formatting, formatting in use, available
styles, all styles, or a custom view. |
Now
that you know how to view your styles, let’s look at customizing them.
