SECTION 3
Lesson 3.3: Inserting Pre-Defined Text

There are a separate set of options for inserting the current date and time into your document. By default, this field will not update and will look like regular text; it will be formatted according to the text around it.

To insert the date and time, first place your cursor where you want the date and time. Then, click the Insert menu and click Date and Time. The dialog box seen to the right will pop up.

You can choose the format of your date and time from any item in the list on the left hand side. You can even set this format as the default format for your current language by clicking the Default button at the bottom of the list.

You can change your language using the drop-down menu on the right; this may change the date and time formats listed.

The last checkbox will turn your date and time into a field that updates every time the document is opened.

Once you’re done setting your options, click OK to complete the operation!

Here are some samples of dates and times:

You can see how you can insert one or more date and time formats to customize your date and time. You can also apply any type of formatting (even to updating dates and times) to make it fit in (or stand out from!) your text.

To delete the date and time, just delete it like you would normal text.
