Lesson 3.3: Inserting Pre-Defined Text

   

 

 

1.

Open Microsoft Office Word 2003.

Open your Formatted Sample Letter document, or open the one from the Sample Files folder.

 

 

2.

Click the Insert menu, choose AutoText, and click AutoText.

 

 

 

3.

In the AutoText dialog box, type To Our Newest Employee.

Click Add.

Click OK.

 

 

 

4.

Place your cursor after the return address.

 

 

 

5.

Press the Enter key.

Click the Insert menu and click Date and Time.

 

 

 

6.

In the date and time dialog box, choose any style that displays the date only.

Make sure Update automatically is not checked.

Click OK.

 

 

 

7.

Delete the text “Dear Mr. Smith.”

At the beginning of this line, start typing To Our Newest Employee.

When the AutoText prompt appears, press Enter to accept the AutoText entry.

Type a comma after the AutoText.

 

 

 

8.

Insert a space after the first sentence of the body of the letter (“I am pleased to inform you…).

 

 

9.

Click the Insert menu and click Symbol.

 

 

 

10.

Choose Wingdings for your font.

Find the happy face and click to select it.

Press OK and then click Close.

 

 

 

11.

Save your document as Final Letter.

Close Microsoft Office Word 2003.
